Our Technology
Hollowgraf is developing an advanced desalination and resource-recovery platform based on graphene-based hollow-fibre membranes and a novel ambient-pressure separation process.
Unlike conventional desalination systems that rely on energy-intensive high-pressure pumps, Hollowgraf’s approach utilises carbon dioxide from air or industrial flue gas as a driving force for separation. This enables desalination at significantly lower pressures while simultaneously facilitating the recovery of value-added products, improving the overall business case for desalination operators.
Our patent-pending process integrates
-
Advanced graphene-based membranes with tailored selectivity
-
Ambient-pressure operation
-
Carbon-assisted separation chemistry
-
Near-zero liquid discharge (ZLD) principles
This integrated approach enables the production of potable water, the reduction or elimination of environmentally harmful brine discharge, and the recovery of useful liquid products, including fertiliser precursors. The technology is designed to be modular, scalable, and compatible with existing desalination infrastructure, supporting both retrofitting and new deployments.
Key Advantages
1
Low-Pressure operations
Reduces energy consumption compared with conventional reverse osmosis systems.
2
Near-Zero Liquid Discharge
Minimises brine disposal and associated environmental impacts.
3
Carbon-Enabled Circularity
Utilises CO₂ from air or industrial flue gas as part of the separation process.
4
Value Recovery
Converts waste streams into economically useful products, creating additional revenue
potential.
